GRIN GUIDES
Little grin. The right size.
A practical guide to choosing a mouthguard for children and young athletes — from model and size to the first training session with new gear.
It is easy to begin with fierce teeth, a favourite colour or a Marvel hero. Involve the young athlete in choosing the look, but find the right model and size first. Note who the mouthguard is for, which sport they play and whether they wear braces. This makes it easier to rule out unsuitable options before comparing designs. A handball player and a hockey player might like the same model. What matters is its intended use and how it fits the athlete.
Junior and adult are different choices
SafeJawz lists the INTRO adult size for ages 12 and above and offers a separate junior version. Always check the age information on the exact product you choose. Do not select an adult version simply because a colour is unavailable in junior. If your child is near the size transition or you are unsure about the labelling, contact us before ordering. Athletes with braces need a model designed for braces: INTRO is not suitable. Include the model name, preferred size and your questions in one enquiry so we can help you find the relevant product information.
Make the first session easier
Set aside a quiet moment at home to read the instructions together before packing the training bag. Find the SafeJawz fitting video for the exact model and follow its instructions rather than an unrelated online clip. Bring the mouthguard and case to practice, and check the sport’s equipment requirements with the coach. For team orders, collect each player’s model, size and braces requirements. That makes a more useful order list than the number of children alone. Never trade the right size for matching colours — one team can have many different grins.
